meet mel

muralist + fine artist

Hi, I’m Mel.

You might know me from stumbling across one of my murals in the wild, finding my work on social media, or maybe this is our first introduction. However you landed here, I’m grateful you did.

Before murals, I spent years painting in oils and acrylics, developing a deep love for color, light, and storytelling. That foundation still influences everything I create today, whether I’m painting a canvas in my studio or a wall several stories tall.

What I love most about murals is their ability to transform more than just a space. The best projects create connection. They give people a reason to stop, look closer, take a photo, start a conversation, or simply feel something. That’s what I strive for with every piece I create.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with brands, developers, nonprofits, cities, festivals, and business owners to bring their ideas to life. My process is highly collaborative because I believe the strongest work happens when your story and my artistic voice come together. Every project is unique, and my goal is always to create something that feels authentic to the people and places it’s created for.

At 5’3”, I may not look like someone who spends her days on lifts, ladders, and scaffolding, but I’ve never been intimidated by a big wall. From apartment buildings and hotels to buses, community spaces, and walls stretching over 100 feet long, I love the challenge of bringing ambitious ideas to life.

If you’re looking for artwork that’s vibrant, meaningful, and created with a whole lot of heart, I’d love to hear from you.

faq

How does the design process work? Every project starts with a conversation. I take time to learn about your vision, goals, the space itself, and what you want people to feel when they experience the mural. From there, I gather inspiration images, references, and ideas to create a mood board that helps guide the direction of the project. Once the concept is established, I create up to three mockups for you to review. After feedback and revisions, we finalize the direction and move into the painting phase. How much does it cost to commission a mural? Pricing varies depending on the size of the wall, design complexity, location, and overall scope of the project. I currently have a project minimum of $4,000. Because every mural is unique, each proposal is customized to fit the specific needs of the project. Some murals are priced using a square-foot rate, while larger or more complex projects are quoted as a flat project fee. You’ll receive a detailed estimate outlining exactly what’s included. How long do projects take? Every mural is different. Factors such as wall size, texture, weather conditions, site accessibility, and design complexity all impact the timeline. Some projects can be completed in a few days, while others may take several weeks. Before painting begins, I’ll provide an estimated timeline so you know exactly what to expect! Will you travel for murals? Absolutely. I love having my work in different cities and communities across the country! Travel expenses such as flights, lodging, rental vehicles, lifts, and other project-specific costs are included as separate line items within your proposal, so everything is transparent from the beginning. What kind of paint do you use? I primarily work with professional-grade spray paint and high-quality exterior paints. The materials I choose depend on the project’s needs, wall surface, and desired finish. I use products specifically designed for large-scale mural work to ensure vibrant color, durability, and long-term performance in outdoor environments. Do you apply protective coatings to your murals? Yes, and I highly recommend them for most exterior murals! Sealants can help shield artwork from UV exposure, weathering, dirt, and graffiti while extending the overall life of the mural. The type of coating used depends on the location and wall surface. *Protective coatings are quoted separately and can be discussed during the proposal process to determine the best option for your specific project. How long will an outdoor mural last? When created with professional-grade materials and properly maintained, outdoor murals can remain vibrant for many years! I use high-quality paints designed for exterior conditions and can recommend protective coatings to further increase longevity. Factors such as direct sun exposure, weather conditions, wall preparation, and maintenance all play a role in how long a mural lasts, but my goal is always to create artwork that will stand the test of time.
